Natural Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening, like any other cosmetic procedure, was once performed in natural ways, but science pushed it forward and allowed it to use more conventional methods to achieve the same effect. Currently, teeth whitening uses top notch technology to give you the best whitening experience you can achieve. However, some people don’t trust science that much – in their eyes, anything that contains chemicals or something unnatural, isn’t safe. Those people will refuse to use teeth whitening kits, and even won’t let their dentist help them with it. Luckily for them, there are a lot of natural alternatives available.
What you should avoid
First, let’s get the nasty stuff out of the way. There are a lot of myths going around about certain things being able to clean your teeth and act as bleaching agents. Lemon juice is probably the most common of those myths. According to the widespread belief, brushing your teeth with lemon juice is one of the best ways to bleach them. However, the truth is exactly the opposite – lemon juice is a strong acid, and may damage your teeth severely.
Strawberries are also popular along the same lines – people say that crushing them into a pulp and brushing with it achieves a perfect whitening effect. Strawberries, however, contain a lot of acid just like lemons, and for this reason you should avoid them as well. Not to mention that the seeds found in strawberries are really hard and may damage your teeth or your gums if you brush too hard. Strawberries can actually be used in moderation, but you should always keep in mind that they are potentially harmful and try to find alternatives to them.
What really works
Baking soda is one of the most popular home remedies for stained teeth, and is the one that works best of them. Combined with salt, it’s a strong abrasive, powerful enough to cleanse most teeth stains. Adding Hydrogen Peroxide to the mix will make it even better, however good Hydrogen Peroxide is hard to come by – you can buy it at the drug store, but it won’t be highly concentrated – bleaching kits, for example, use a much more concentrated solution of Hydrogen Peroxide. Still, it will be able to get rid of most of your stains, while keeping it completely natural – so if you don’t trust science and medicaments, this is probably your best bet.
