Is a Dentist Required For Good Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening is a really popular procedure nowadays. Especially since it became so cheap, now anyone can afford to get their teeth bleached in no time, and enjoy a new shining smile. However, people tend to wonder if they really need a dentist throughout the whole procedure – sometimes, you feel as if you’re spending so much money for nothing. The truth is, a dentist isn’t really necessary, unless certain conditions are met. We’ll go over these conditions in the next few paragraphs, but what you should keep in mind is that dentists can’t do much about the bleaching itself that you can’t do at home on your own.
Checking suitability
Sometimes, a person might not be suited for teeth whitening for one reason or another. For example, preexisting medical conditions may pose risks for teeth bleaching patients, and it’s advised to stay away from the procedure in these cases. An example of this is a person’s age – being too young makes your teeth vulnerable, as they’re still developing. If you’re not at least sixteen years old, you should postpone teeth bleaching until you are. Also, if you’re a woman in your pregnancy, by all means stay away from all teeth bleaching procedures, as they pose a serious risk for your baby. Same goes for women who’re breastfeeding – it will harm the baby, so put off the bleaching until after you’re done breastfeeding the baby.
Internal bleaching
There is a certain bleaching procedure which you cannot perform yourself. It’s called internal bleaching, and as you may be guessing from the name, it refers to bleaching your teeth from the inside out, instead of doing it the other way, which is traditional. However, this type of bleaching requires the bleaching agent to be injected into the tooth, which makes the presence of a dentist absolutely necessary.
In the end, it all comes down to mostly your personal preferences – if you don’t trust your own skills and aptitude, you may use a dentist’s services to get your teeth bleached. Otherwise though, it’s best to save up your money, and spend it on something else when you need to – do the bleaching yourself, and you’ll see that there’s nothing to be scared of in this simple procedure. Before you know it, your teeth will be shining as good as new and you’ll be able to happily smile again.
