Tooth Whitening – A Dental Wonder
What is tooth whitening? If you’re asking this question, you’re really out of touch with modern technology and cosmetics. Tooth whitening – or teeth bleaching, as it’s also known – refers to the process of applying a bleaching agent to stained teeth, causing them to get cleaned to the inside. The benefits are obvious – you get to brighten your smile, and if you’re growing older, you probably need this a lot. Teeth turning yellow is a natural part of the aging process, and while you can’t stop it, you can do a lot to revert the changes it does to you.
What teeth whitening can do
Through teeth whitening, you can recover your teeth from any discoloration. It appears frequently while you’re growing older, and it’s a lot more prone to showing up if you lead a life of eating and drinking dark foods. Coffee and cigarettes are a good example of this. If you’re an avid smoker, or drink a lot of coffee, your teeth are probably a much darker shade of yellow than those of your peers. In this case, even regular bleaching may not be enough for you – worry not though, solutions still exist!
Internal bleaching
If your teeth are too stained for regular bleaching, you may need internal one. As you may be guessing from the name, internal bleaching is performed inside the tooth, as opposed to applying the bleaching agent to the external areas. This way, the bleaching agent is able to work its way from within the affected area and thoroughly clean any stains or other nasty formations. The downside is that you need to be injected with the bleaching agent, and it’s painful – additionally, the dentist may charge you extra for the effort.
Future developments
Teeth bleaching is rapidly developing right now. So many things are being discovered and worked on that noone can surely say where we’ll be in say, 10 years from now. One thing is certain though – the developments will eventually reach a major breakthrough which will lead to the discovery of great things. For example, one thing which is being worked on right now is a remineralizing solution for the teeth – using it in combination with a teeth bleaching agent will make the perfect solution for damaged teeth – it will both restore their color, and their physical structure, by rebuilding the tooth’s minerals. This is something which we don’t yet have, but hopefully will very soon.
