Home Dental Care Remedies For Whitening Your Teeth
Bleaching has proven to be one of the most popular ways to get whiter teeth in recent years, particularly since it can get you effective results almost immediately. However, there are some people that are worried about the possible effects of bleaching on their teeth, which has lead to the investigation of other methods of getting pearly white chompers.
Below are some effective dental care methods of whitening your teeth that you can try out at home…or anywhere else for that matter.
Develop better oral hygiene
You can only benefit from implementing better oral hygiene practices such as rinsing your mouth after eating any type of food. This will help get rid of food particles that can breed bacteria. While brushing your teeth after eating anything at all would be ideal, this is simply not possible most of the time. Rinsing your mouth is therefore the next best thing.
Improve your diet
Starchy foods can cause the buildup of too much acid in your mouth, which can be quite harmful to your teeth. As an alternative, you should try eating more foods that cause your salivary glands to kick into overdrive such as apples, guava, sugar cane, cucumber, citrus fruits, and celery. In addition to being beneficial to your teeth, the fiber in such foods will also help out your digestive system, resulting in better overall health.
Brush your teeth with salt
Not many people know this but common salt is actually a very effective teeth-whitening solution, although you have to make sure that you don’t use it too often as it can cause the tooth’s enamel to wear out. You can generally get beneficial results by brushing your teeth with salt instead of your regular toothpaste twice a week. You will also have to make sure that you rinse your mouth out thoroughly afterwards in order to avoid swallowing too much salt.
Make a tooth whitening solution
You can actually make your own teeth whitening solution from ingredients that you probably already have at home. All you need is baking soda and hydrogen peroxide in equal parts, and mix them together into a paste with about the same consistency as toothpaste. The taste of this mixture may be unpleasant to some, so you may want to mix in some mint flavoring to it. You then apply this mixture directly onto your teeth and leave it there for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it off. You should be careful not to swallow any of this mixture as it can cause you to get ill. If you do swallow any, drink a lot of water immediately.
